Write with a model. Still be able to say who wrote it.

Byline is a studio for work that has to stand up afterwards: books, papers, standards and policy. The manuscript is plain markdown under git. A model can write beside you in the same files. Every turn it takes is committed, replayed word by word, and counted in the disclosure the finished document carries. You do not estimate how much of it was AI. The repository already knows.

The problem it solves

The question is no longer whether a model helped. It is how much, and where.

Publishers, journals, standards bodies and procurement all now ask. The honest answer is hard to give after the fact, because nothing was keeping score while you worked. Byline keeps it as you go, in the ordinary version history, and produces the statement from that record rather than from memory.

Three kinds of work

The model earns its place differently in each.

A book Talk through the chapter, then let it draft into the file while you watch. You rewrite it in your own voice and the tint shows what is still the model's. A paper Use it for the reading, not the prose. Ask mode answers without touching the manuscript, imported papers land in the library with citation keys, and the argument stays yours. A policy Say what the policy is for and get a complete first draft to argue with. Editing something wrong is faster than starting from nothing, and every sentence you change becomes yours.
